Fisher Liberty Gold
:
a corporate site with a structured CMS

Fisher Liberty Gold sells gold and silver and sets up precious-metals IRAs for people saving for retirement. I built the site in Webflow from the client's designs, with a structured CMS and every layout checked on phone and desktop.

01 ยท The brief

The brief what
Fisher Liberty Gold
needed

Fisher Liberty Gold sells gold and silver coins and sets up precious-metals IRAs for people saving for retirement. Its buyers are making a considered, high-value purchase, so the site has to explain the coins and the IRA process clearly and make the next step, a call or a free IRA kit, easy to take.

The client's team supplied the designs. My job was to build them in Webflow with a structured CMS for the coin catalog and the articles, and to make every layout hold up on phone and desktop. Success meant a catalog the team could update without a developer, and a site that looked as considered on a phone as on a desktop.

Three constraints shaped the build

  1. 01

    The designs were fixed

The client's team supplied the designs. My job was to build them exactly as drawn, on phone and desktop.

  2. 02

    A structured CMS

Content had to sit in collections the team can keep up to date.

  3. 03

    Phone and desktop alike

Every layout had to hold on small screens as well as large ones.

02 ยท Key decisions

Key decisions and why I made them

Three calls that shaped the build, each with the reason behind it and what it cost.

  1. 01

CMS collections split by content type

    Decided
Separate collections for the coin catalog and the articles, so each has its own template and fields.
    Why
Coins and articles need different fields, and one template each keeps both easy to edit.
    Trade-off
Two templates to design and maintain instead of one.
  2. 02

    Client-First naming throughout

    Decided
Finsweet Client-First classes on every page.
    Why
Any developer who works on the site after me can read the class names and find their way around.
    Trade-off
Client-First names are longer than ad-hoc ones, and keeping them consistent takes discipline.
  3. 03

Category pages that list the catalog

    Decided
Gold, silver, exclusive and IRA-eligible coins each get a page that lists the matching coins from the catalog.
    Why
Buyers browse by metal or by IRA eligibility, and one product edit updates every page it appears on.
    Trade-off
The category rules have to be checked whenever a new coin is added.
