Nicolle Alex Therapy
:
brand, design and build from one pair of hands

Nicolle Alex is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, offering therapy in person and by telehealth. I designed the brand and the pages, then built the site in Webflow on Client-First with CMS-driven pages.

01 ยท The brief

The brief what
Nicolle Alex Therapy
needed

Nicolle Alex is a licensed marriage and family therapist offering individual, couples and telehealth therapy across California. People arrive at a therapist's site unsure and often anxious, so every page had to feel calm, explain who she helps, and make getting in touch simple.

The practice needed a brand before it could have a site, so the identity came first, then the page designs, then the Webflow build. Success meant a site Nicolle could keep current herself, publishing articles and editing her pages, with a contact form that asks only what she needs to reply.

Three constraints shaped the build

  1. 01

A new brand to set first

The identity had to exist before a page could be designed, so the brand came first.

  2. 02

    Clients looking for help

Visitors arrive unsure. Every page had to be calm, clear and easy to act on.

  3. 03

    Edited by the practice

Nicolle updates the site herself and brings bigger changes back to me.

02 ยท Key decisions

Key decisions and why I made them

Three calls that shaped the build, each with the reason behind it and what it cost.

  1. 01

One brand system for print and web

    Decided
The brand colors, type and logo set up as Webflow variables.
    Why
A brand change updates every page at once instead of one page at a time.
    Trade-off
Setting up variables takes longer at the start of the build.
  2. 02

    CMS-driven articles

    Decided
Articles run from one CMS collection on one template, with Webflow's built-in pagination on the list.
    Why
Nicolle publishes a new article by filling in fields, without touching the layout.
    Trade-off
Every article shares one layout, so a one-off design needs a developer.
  3. 03

    Client-First naming throughout

    Decided
Finsweet Client-First classes on every page.
    Why
Any developer who works on the site after me can read the class names and find their way around.
    Trade-off
Client-First names are longer than ad-hoc ones, and keeping them consistent takes discipline.
